GFS is now open in Northeastern Wisconsin

That's right. There's now a GFS Marketplace on Blue Mound in Appleton. (Applause!!!)
Many Wisconsinites may be wondering what in the world is a GFS. GFS stands for Gordon Food Service. GFS tauts itself as the world's largest family owned and operated food service distributor in North America. Essentially, it is a restaurant supply distributor that is open to us ordinary folks- at no fee.
While I'm not usually a fan of bulk food stores like Sam's Club or Costco, I LOVE GFS. They have fantastic deals on everything from paper plates, food storage containers, party supplies to deli meats, dairy items and frozen food items. Yoopers, you know what I'm talking about. There have been GFS Marketplaces in Escanaba and Marquette for more than a decade.
GFS is fantastic for the family or whatever business, school or organization you belong. My uncle who is instrumental in the Manistique Lakes Area Lion's Club is a frequent visitor to GFS. Before every church picnic, chicken roast, fish fry, or pancake brunch, he makes the GFS Marketplace his primary shopping destination for paper supplies, syrups, meat and picnic salads. GFS has some of the best potato salad this side of Grandma's kitchen. Their egg prices are egg-ceptional too- $3.99 for 36 eggs!!!
My family has been known to travel from Green Bay to Escanaba just to shop there. Really. Now we'll be able to go just a half hour away on the opposite end of US 41.

Make the most of your memberships

This past Christmas, I bought my husband a gift that has paid for itself time and time again- a family membership to the EAA Museum in Oshkosh. As a member of EAA, we not only get free admission for our entire household to EAA, we get the EAA Sport Aviation magazine, discounts in the gift shop, and admission to hundreds of science and technology oriented museums throughout the world through the Association of Science and Techonogy Center's Passport program.  All of that for less than $50!
A few weeks back my husband and I took a day-trip to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry. Had we not received free admission to the museum, we would have had to pay $27 per person for one day!
If your family loves museums, I'd highly recommend getting a membership to your favorite ASTC local museum. This could be Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, AirZoo in Kalamazoo, the Building for Kids in Appleton, Barlow Planetarium, Neville Museum in Green Bay, EAA in Oshkosh, or the Paper Discovery Center in Appleton.

Perhaps your family is into animals and zoos. You can get the same type of benefit through the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. Discounts of half off or even free admission can be found at zoos across the country including the NEW Zoo in Green Bay, the Detroit Zoo, the Milwaukee Zoo, the National Zoo in Washington D.C., the LA Zoo, Cincinnati Zoo and even the San Francisco Zoo. The NEW Zoo family pass is just $59. Considering a daily pass for adults is $7 and children is $5, the NEW Zoo family pass is quite a bargain for 365 days of admission.
