Gone Country

Get your cowboy hats on for several U.P. and Northeastern Wisconsin events this weekend- the Hulbert Country Music Festival, the Great Lakes Rodeo and the Mackville Tractor Pull.

If you've ever traveled on M-28 between Newberry and Sault Ste. Marie, you've gone through Hulbert. This week (today through Sunday), the town is home to the 7th Annual Hulbert Country Music Festival. This FREE festival features musicians and singers from throughout the state, food concessions, a flag retirement ceremony, a fish fry and Gospel music on Sunday morning. All event swill be at the American Legion Post 393 at 37661 West 5th St. in Hulbert.

The Marquette County Fairground in Sands Township is home to the Great Lakes Rodeo tomorrow (6/14) through Sunday (6/16). Watch the best in U.P. rodeo, horsemanship competitions and even attend a barn dance. Advance tickets for adults are $10 or $5 for children. These can be purchased at the Lake Superior Partnership office, the Ishpeming Negaunee Chamber of Commerce office or the A.M. Express in Escanaba. Tickets can be also purchased at the gate for $12 for adults and $6 for children. Camping and weekend passes are available.

I can hear the VROOM! of trucks and tractors from here. Mackville (just a bit northwest of Appleton) is home to the Mackville Tractor Pull this weekend. The event has an admission fee on Friday and Saturday but Sunday is Family Day which means it is FREE. There will be a polka mass, farm pull at Noon, carnival rides and games, live entertainment and a chicken dinner. All events take place at St. Edward Parish.

And don't forget to shine up your boots for the biggest stars of country music.  Country USA (NOT a bargain by any stretch of the imagination) is coming up in Oshkosh, starting June 25th.
